Name:
Violin

Origins:

It emerged between the years 1495-1505 in Italy but its extensive ancestral history leads way back into Medieval times. It began as an instrument for the consort (group of instruments), but now enjoys its lifestyle as a solo, ensemble and orchestral instrument.

Parts:
Fingerboard
Tuning
Pegs
F-Holes
Bridge Fine Tuners
Chinrest

Usage:

Support the violin with your neck and shoulder, with your left hand and fingers free to move. This instrument can be sounded through the use of a bow or by plucking the strings with your fingers.

Reason for selection:

It produces a warm singing tone that can hardly be found on any other instruments. It is also said that playing the violin improves our sensitivity to differences in pitch, which we will benefit greatly from, with the introduction of this instrument into our class.
